Community Outreach

The Department of Management and the Community Food Bank are working together to fight hunger in the Central Valley. The partnership has already been extremely rewarding and beneficial to our students, faculty, and to the employees and clients of the Community Food Bank. We look forward to continuing this relationship and service to the community. Check out some of our recent projects and activities!

Food Sorts:
One of the challenges the Community Food Bank faces is sorting through the donated food to prepare it for delivery to its 170+ food agencies. Below is a picture of some of our faculty after we sorted 46,000 pounds of food in January 2007. Students and faculty have rolled up their sleeves to sort food on several other occasion

Training:
Our faculty has presented training workshops in customer service at the 2006 State of the Plate Conference. We have also conducted training needs assessments to identify further training needs of the Food Bank.

Service Learning:
Our faculty and students are involved in a number of mutually beneficial learning projects serving and learning from the Food Bank. We have completed the Food Bank’s “Hunger 101” course, toured the food bank, and updated employee manuals and legal procedures. Currently, students are involved in conducting and rewriting job analyses for positions at the Food Bank. Many more exciting projects are underway and being planned for the future!

Food Drives:
We recently hosted our first major campus food drive! The campus community donated food for an entire week and the food drive culminated at the Fresno State football game against Utah State on November 3rd, 2007. In this effort we partnered with the Community Food Bank, the Fresno State Football Team, and the Sierra-Pacific Orthopedic Center. Our very generous football fans donated approximately 119,242 pounds of food to fight hunger in the Central Valley!
