Institute for Developing Entrepreneurial Action
The Institute for Developing Entrepreneurial Action (I.D.E.A.) serves as a resource center for
entrepreneurs engaged in an effort to launch a new business. The Institute for Developing
Entrepreneurial Action facilitates, supports, and encourages entrepreneurship and invention by
assisting students and clients in new venture growth in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California
through outreach, education, and research. IDEA offers a host of services and activities designed
to assist the entrepreneur in bringing their idea(s) to the market place in a manner that will
encourage long-term success and growth of the firm. The Institute founded and
sponsors Kids Invent Toys™ www.kidsinvent.org. Kids Invent Toys is a one-week camp that brings kids aged 10-14 to
campus to invent toys and design a business around their invention. Professor Timothy M. Stearns and Dr. Edwin Sobey,
a nationally recognized author of books on invention and science for children, created kids Invent Toys. The camp
requires students to understand the concept of a toy, develop a prototype of the toy, design a plan of business to
manufacture and sell the toy, create a web page, and present the toy to the public at a "toy faire". Whether helping
inventors, building a business plan, providing for training, teaching the entrepreneurs of tomorrow, or collecting
vital information that assists the public and private sectors, IDEA is a catalyst for promoting economic growth in
the Valley. Professor Timothy M. Stearns is the founder and director of IDEA.
